Stop playing with the lights!

Sponsors That Keep Fish Tank Pet Alive:

fishtankpet lightswitch Stop playing with the lights!I was visiting a friend of mine in london, he had an aquarium setup near where we were sitting in his living room. It was a moderately mid-sized aquarium with a good handful of freshwater fishies to go along with it. So we were talking and drinking some nice english tea and his kid walks in the room and starts playing with the aquarium lights. He switches it on then off then on then off then… well… you get the point. This continues for about 20 on and off cycles and i’m sitting there trying to contain myself from jumping out the chair and start spanking the kid. Good thing my friend finally took notice and told him to stop.

Thinking of this incident brought me back to when i was a kid. I remembered i did the exact same thing to my fishes, so i don’t really blame the kid (just his dad, kidding ofcourse) for his actions. I think all beginners of this hobby go through this phase of ignorance. We don’t really think of what it feels like for our fish when we keep turning on and off the aquarium lights like a light switch when we go in and out the room. Heck, if God kept turning on and off the sun every few minutes i’m sure i’d be pretty stressed out!
So my point is to stop treating the fish tank lighting like any other light switch, the best thing to have is to have a timer so you can set the duration your aquarium is lighted and leave it to automatically switch off.
